There's five going on, I imagine some or perhaps most people, it's rather easy to join each one until they find something that they like. I however am an indecisive person at times which is why I like fewer options. It might be that I over-think things at times. After changing a few options in mac os x, the new theme is more manageable than how things were before I changed things around. Now the only thing for me to see is the variations of combat and planets.

Thing with beta is its just that, a testing grounds, so really it doesnt matter what game you join its just for testing purposes anyway.

I'll see if I cant get to it today though, @ work all day so will see if i have time or not,

Also I personally reckon the logout image needs updating to fit in a bit better :P

1024x768 on IE6 and IE7 cause work only lets me use 6 and at home I am using 7. Once I changed font size to 75% everything was good.

Yea it's annoying when workplaces mandate IE6 because there's so many problems with it. The problem with this might be the same as with the force drop stuff which would mean less different problems with IE6/7 to fix.

From a security point of view, using IE6 is retarded, the number of reports i have to write up weekly because companies use older browsers is insane.

Can you explain what you mean by moving links please because I haven't noticed it myself. Also there is the option to go back to old style green colours (although that's currently still the only option)

I agree completely, unfortunately my work is also just now making the move to Office 2007 from 2003....very large companies move very slowly.....

Maybe Page can remove the top content area when viewing local maps. Or maybe he can collapse the top content area when moving in local maps. There are a few ways to take care of this problem but I am sure they would have to be tested in beta first.

On a side note, I see that some people are selecting the "Its good but the colors need changing" option. It would really help if those people would give ideas on what colors they would like to see. Because when dealing with colors, one person may like one color theme and another may not. So it would be nice to beable to have a default color theme then a few option that players can use from there. Then if they don't like any of the available options then they can just make their own with the change css option.

A for effort, however my personal feelings are not great.

i think the main complaint about our current interface was that it was dated and seemed very old. unfortunatley this new interface seems very retro, and if anything brings back memories of the initial black and yellow interface of the original game, this feels more like a step back visually.

Sadly its just very blah, it doesnt have that smooth clean web 2.0 feel to it:-/

Thanks for the feedback. I think Page is going to modify it some so you dont have to scroll when moving in Local Map mode. Part of what you have to do is to try and look past the color theme. The colors are the easyest part to change, another thing to think about is the rounded corners, they are css3. The basic layout has only one table the rest is all div tags. I went with the rounded corners to try and get away from the square box layout look which is a step into the pass.

The theme I was trying for is making it look like the center content area was a view screen that was looking into space. The rest of the layout around it is onboad ship information and action links.

Of the browsers available only Firefox, Linux, Safari, and chrome support some of css3. The big MS IE doesn't but I have heard that IE9 will support css3. So the real problem comes down to what you can and can't do while keeping it cross browser compatible.

Now if SMR had lots of money they could code their own browser like you see in some of the pay to play sites. This would require the players to download and install it to play. Another thing these pay to play sites have is lots of graphics which are cool but again they use up lots of banwidth and longer page load time if they are not using their own built browser.

So you got any money! LOL just joking :)

I have been toying with the idea of building my own browser just not sure if Spock and Page would allow me to access the database remotely. But something like that would take time and lots of testing. Its an idea!

For those players that are using the new layout and are playing on a small screen like a laytop. If you find you have to scroll down while moving in local map mode. You can use the resize function and resize to a 3 X 3 grid, this way you can see if anyone is in a sector below you. Once Page modifies the local map display you should be able to move in the default 5 X 5 grid without scrolling. also for everyone else using firefox or one of the other browsers that supports css3 is much better then playing with IE.
