There is more to the game then just who killed more . I don't see any clear winner here.

They die fast but are a lot more fun for the first 3/4's of the game. Just need to find the right mix of speed and time.

It adds to the game and i love being able to have time to get ships to fight back:)

Well when you buy a scanner for your ship it lets you scan the sectors around you when you are in space. when you are in space look at options to move you will have 1 to 4 options. If you bought a scanner you will see the option to scan it will tell you Scan Results........ Friendly vessels 0 Enemy ...

There should always be a way to see somone same lvl was better i think. Not that there are going to be any lvl 50's any time soon.
