The game looks fine on Firefox 1.5 on Mac OSX4. It should work on Safari as well. Speed should be more or less the same as for a PC.
One SMR related problem is lack of mIRC. If you want an irc client for mac I would recommend erc, an emacs based irc client. Fire is pretty good too.

This game has never been much for RP. There was some of that in the shareplay days, but that was mostly people from Panumbra. Once that died so did the RP section. At the same time it's incorrect to call this a poor man's quake. It's more like multiplay chess with a lot of strategy and tactics.

The problem with flaming these days is that the art of creative flaming has disappeared. It used to be eloquent and subtle jabs that suggested why the other person was an idiot without coming right out and saying it - nowadays it's just crude and insulting. Way too true. I think it's the Nintendo g...

Why should money be the ultimate deciding factor in a game?..... that is, why should the alliance who uses their programmable calculators to calculate port drainage rates and most efficient trade times have the ultimate advantage when it comes to war??? i think the winner of an alliance war should ...

That's a very good list, but it's a bit long for a first time user.
Maybe you should have a short README with a list of DOs and DO NOTs that link to other posts. For example:
DO NOT logoff unprotected. For more info see topic Logging off safely.
