No other planet in the who universe(s) as trees? I find that hard to believe... and most buildings start with sticks and stones.. metal buildings come later in civilizations. So as a basic building material wood makes sense.


However, not saying that things shouldn't be changed to better suit the "sci-fi" feel.

If it was a local population doing the building sure, However these are space faring types that colonize uninhabited planets, odds are they wouldn't bother to ship in something with such low density as wood billions of miles :). Room is at a premium in spaceships, you can build 10 times as many buildings out of 100 cubic feet of steel as you could out of wood... *grin*

At this point another good just to facilitate the upgrade of a port is not needed when people just buy and dump.
