Bars

Spock and I have decided to go ahead and expand the bars with more features. If you have suggestions please post in detail here

Whatever we choose, I think it should be risky to get...like you have to buy 10 drinks then talk to the bartender or something. The bartender then tells you something like " I heard the Ik'Thorne port in sector 888 is now selling luxury items" i.e. the bartender will tell you which port(s) in the galaxy have upgraded, 1 at a time, and randomly, so he/she/it could tell you the same port every time you get drunk and ask him/her/it. 10 drinks then asking the bartender per info, that way you need 11 uninterupted clicks to get any news.

To further the idea of auctioning off items at the bars such as racial weapons (since I like that idea): How about every 2 or 3 days in the news is posted a message "Moe's Tavern in sector 333 is now selling a Savene EM Flux Cannon! Bidding begins at 500000 credits and will last for 12 hours. Bid now on this hot weapon!" The bidding would be straight up name your price. The Bartender would show you the current highest bid if you ask him and you can rebid as many times as you want. You have to have the money on you when you bid, but if you get outbid, the money goes back to your ship. The highest bidder can be posted on the wall maybe instead of talking to the bartender, either way I think it should be posted anonymously. This way the weapons will not spread like wildfire to other races, the bidding is localized at 1 bar so it will be a risk to go there and try and bid, and as the deadline nears, people will try and get back to the bar and sneak in the last bid and more calamity will ensue. Hooray! I can't think of a good idea of what to do with the cash the bar gets from the winning bid. Any ideas? The weapon would be a random racial weapon. So sometimes you get the Alskant crap weapon and sometimes you get a CBD. Maybe weighted probabilities for higher level weapons?

I hope those are fleshed out and balanced enough for Azool :)

I think maybe instead of 1 specific bar (so that if an alliance owns the gal of the bar its not unfair to others) maybe say Starlite Saloon is now autioning off a CBD or so. But yes I like the idea.

Texas hold'em would require multiple players in a bar since coding AI players for it would be a real pain and it's not fun to play against a machine so we don't have the playerbase for it. Running 5 card draw would be more reasonable.

bartender intel is a good idea but very minimal info maybe stuff that could be found out through other pages of the game.

a decent poker game is probably too hard to code and the poker fad has kind of faded since US shut down online poker

I think an auction is pretty neat, but it might have to be at a separate location. You could auction up used ships (allows you to acquire another race's ship; keep the warbirds and top alignment-based ships as a very low % of the total auctions) or used weapons (maybe have a list of available weapons that are slightly used so they don't do full damage but you don't need to fly far to get them - 135/135 PPL for example).
