Beta is for the time being shutdown. When it comes back up it will be SMR1.5 which will be closed beta testing. Once we move into the open beta testing it will still be for primarily testing purposes. Of course anyone is welcome to come play during open beta for whatever reason they want (hopefully they will report bugs when they find them); however, training of newbies means that there is a vet involved. If there is a vet involved then they can pass along the link to beta. If a random newbie wanders in beta (from a link on the main page), they might get confused and then bad things start to happen.
