Intergalactic Book Club

Post by seldum »

We are excited to be bringing you the first installment of the Space Merchant Realms Book Club, a loose confederation of book enthusiasts, certified bibliophiles, and pilots just looking for something to peruse while on those long, extended flights.

Today's selection for the book club is a winner of the Pulitzer Prize. "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" is a vibrant book fueled by adrenaline-powered prose. It establishes author Junot Diaz as one of contemporary fiction's most distinctive new voices. In his novel, Diaz's protagonist Oscar is a sweet, yet disastrously overweight ghetto nerd dreaming of romance and becoming the equivalent of a J.R.R. Tolkien. He spends countless hours mulling over ways to impress girls and to write the "great novel" but is constantly overlooked, shrugged off, and humiliated.

This selection was chosen after several recommendations as well as the poignant fact that many pilots have been complaining about their expanding girths during this holiday season. It will be a book you will laugh, cry, and speed through during your flights.

Happy Reading! Stay tuned for our next installment.

Note: All pilots are invited to attend one of several informational meetings about overeating and the consequences of said actions on life expectancy and aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. Contact the Intergalactic Food Network for details.
