Spockology - GP Archive: Meteors and Mergatroids

Lonely at the Bottom

The first time pilot venturing out into the great divide that is space searches for group protection. Alliances of Peace, Destruction, Cash, Defense. Alliances offer everything that they need to survive in that so unforgiving cold and darkness.

Some pilots never know the chaos of an Alliance meeting, the slap of a large trout, or the sound of your enemy being sucked out into space through a small hole no bigger then a pin head... And yet they survive, for they don’t know any better....

But what of the Vets -- the old and forgotten warriors of our past? Those faces and names that are seen and heard of less and less as the generations go by.... What has happened to all these vets?

Were they left behind in favor of new alliance blood? Did they go on some long journey, seeking that which only their veteran skills could find? Or were they left at the bus station by those they considered family...put out to pasture because they couldn’t put the old dog down themselves?

I ask now that all pilots young and old to remember these Vets as you see them once and a while coming out of their inactivity (some out of a coma!) and give them the respect they deserve, not the silent treatment and disrespect that so many of them receive....

Signs of Things to Come?

Yet another universe has begun, and once again we are plagued with mines. While trading recently this reporter discovered that the Salvene galaxy contained a wide variety of single mines. These mines seemed to trace the way between the major routes in Salvene -- which are few and far between this round, though that is a rant for some other time….

While these mines do no significant amount of damage they are annoying and discouraging when you are trying to trade in peace. Is this a sign of things to come in the new Spockology universe? One can only hope not!

WQ Galaxy: Trader's Heaven or Hunters Paradise?

As many traders have flooded the WQ Human Galaxy, they all are coming to the same conclusion: What were we thinking?

Many are finding out the hard way that there are few decent trade routes at all, and those are never stocked with enough goods to make the trip worthwhile. Not only are the cash benefits making some people look elsewhere for more lucrative trade routes, but the threat of many hunters has caused almost every trader in the WQ galaxy to always remain in fear.

Hunters have come to WQ from as far away as the distant galaxies of Ik'Thorne, Salvene, and Creonti to try their luck at the pirate life. Local WQ economists are concerned that this may shut down WQ trade all together as all but the most brave of traders are forced to look to the outer galaxies for their profits.

Home on the Range

As many alliances venture to the outer galaxies in search of a home, some are reporting unfavorable conditions with trying to keep a foothold in any of them. "Personally, none of the (planet) galaxies look favorable," reports one trader who wishes to remain anonymous.

Indeed, the number of entry/exit warps and the distance to Combat Accessories shops and UNOs are a major determining factor in almost every alliance's decision. It will be interesting to see which alliances try to claim what galaxies and which ones bet their safety on logging off in Fed space.

These decisions will certainly affect the way traders, port masters, and shop owners conduct their everyday business. Political analysts are watching alliance movements closely and are waiting for the inevitable battles for territory to begin.
