Newsletter #26

Post by seldum »

ear Player,

We hope this newsletter finds you well!

SMR is proud to announce a new round has started as of Sunday January 8th at 15:00 Server Time - CET (14:00 GMT, 09:00 EDT).

Round 45 - New Dawn
Description:
For years the four major powers of this universe have been fighting amongst themselves for control for the universe. After years of watching this war from the sidelines, the Racial Federations have joined together and pushed these once powerful forces back to their home galaxies. Their ships destroyed and their once powerful hold on the universe reduced to small pockets of resistance. They have fortified their defences and there remaining ships slip through the shadows.

As you make your entrance to this universe you must seek friends to work together to defeat the remnants of the old alliances to build a new empire for you and your team mates.

Good Luck.

Settings:
Speed: 1.5
Max Turns: 550
NPC Alliances: 4
Pre-built Planets: Yes

What's New?

The new round features various changes to the game, mostly in the form of ship changes. These changes will help balance some of the hunter class ships that are overpowered with respect to other hunter class ships. A complete list of the ship changes can be found in game by clicking the version number at the bottom right of the page, alternative details of the majority of the changes can be found here and via Google Docs here

This new round has more Non-Player Controlled (NPC) players then ever before. These players are robotic players that will move around the universe and trade. This allows for players to have more targets to hunt and kill. Remember these kills don’t count for your kill count but you do get experience from them and whatever cash these NPC players have made.

Changes

Request a Feature - Favourite votes now also count as yes votes.
Registering - The captcha now has a white background to make reading entered text easier.
Chess - Fixed various bugs and reversed the board for the black player.
Combat Results - Fixed a bug with showing experience lost to forces/planets/ports.
Hotkeys - Fixed a bug where hotkeys would not always work (occurred for Chrome on Mac OS X for sure).
Cloak - Cloak is now based on experience rather than level so you can see through the cloak if you have the same or greater experience; Dropping mines now decloaks.
Forces - Forces now have their owners visible; Shooting on forces is now done individually rather than as a team; Mines now only do 50% damage to federal ships.
Planets - You can no longer land on a planet whilst under newbie protection.
Alliance Joining - There is no longer a delay between leaving and joining an alliance.
Ship Changes - Loads of them, check out the differences here and view the entire ship list here.

The last major change to the game next game will be the turn cap/speed. Per results of the polling earlier this winter the admins have decided to lower the speed of the game and lower the turn cap. This will allow for more strategy within the game. The caps will be 1.5 speed and 550 turns respectively.

Coming Soon

We are currently the in process of having new racial images created, at long last Nijarin's will have there own race image. These are expected to be available for the next full round. Additionally we are interviewing several contractors for new in-game logo's and page designs. Check the forums often for the latest updates.
Additionally we are working on a few new features we hope to be able to introduce next round as well.
We hope to see you in game soon and tell a friend about us we welcome all new comers to the game!!

Thank you,

The SMR Administration Team
