I'm not sure what # newsie this is or what round we're on, lol, but here's my first draft. Please feel free to make comments/edits. Hopefully we can get this out by tomorrow the latest.

Dear Player,
THE GREAT DIVERGENCE IS COMING!!! The most recent draft round has come to a close; the wormholes have collapsed in on themselves and the traders have left the galaxy in search of more lucrative deals and the next great adventure. The administrative gods have also had time to reflect on the past carnage and have decided to implement some significant changes. Many a grizzled veteran has felt the nostalgic tug of days gone by, and we’re happy to report that Space Merchant Realms will be returning to its roots...sort of. Round X will be the final map to feature the recent ship and weapon changes before returning to a more traditional focus! JettJackson will be spearheading the charge back to the past, although we’ll still likely keep some of the cosmetic changes and things like hotkeys that have helped improve gameplay. Stay tuned for a more complete list of changes but please feel free to offer your input to your friendly neighborhood admin in the meantime.

Wait. What’s that you say? You liked the idea of 3v3 or even 1v1 combat and new planet types? Well, fear not! Brave souls will be needed to beta test the ongoing changes with an eye towards a completely revamped product sometime in the future. Astax has graciously agreed to be the head coder for our beta project, which will feature real-time changes and several test features, including enhanced graphics. There will be something for everyone as we try to make SMR the best it can be. We will be polling for volunteers once we have finalized our beta game plan.

Speaking of coding, Space Merchant Realms very much appreciates the hard work of our coders. However, we always need new coders!!! Now is the most exciting time to lend a hand because you can truly help shape the future of the game we all know and love. Ask your friends, your family, your peers, your fellow students…help us make SMR into the truly amazing game it can be. And as always, SMR welcomes any new ideas for maps. Map ideas and submissions can be sent to any SMR admin or on the SMR webboard in the map submission thread.

In closing, while we strive to create the best experience for all by making these significant changes to SMR, we would be remiss if we did not acknowledge one other very significant change to the SMR landscape: Greydeath and RCK have recently stepped down from their duties as head admins. Both have dedicated years to keeping this game running as smoothly as possible and we thank them for their time and dedication. Being a senior admin for an emotionally charged game rife with history without any compensation and very little thanks is always a challenging endeavor, and so we extend our sincere thanks for their efforts. Bouncer and Jouldax drew the short straws to take their place – we wish them the best of luck; goodness knows they’ll need it :).

See you in game!

Thank you,

The SMR Administration Team

Next round should be Round 83, but otherwise looks good.

I took a calculated risk. Unfortunately, I am bad at math.

Might be worth it to mention the admin table on Friday, if the newsletter goes out by tonight.

I was thinking about that but I wasn't sure if we should modify the table to be closed again or if we should seek input from the community right away...perhaps half the meeting could be open and then take the other half (rules changes, etc.) to skype...

Updated newsletter to include admin table. Someone please check for spelling and grammar and let's get this thing out to the masses.

Looks fine, someone let spock know in skype that it is ready with the link to this thread and hopefully he will get it in tonight/tomorrow.
