Dumb laws

Post by B.O.B. »

Got a state or country with a dumb law? Than share. :) I'll be pulling my favorites from http://www.dumblaws.com as time goes on. :)

Today's is Alabama:

It is illegal to wear a fake moustache that causes laughter in church.

Putting salt on a railroad track may be punishable by death.

Boogers may not be flicked into the wind.

It is legal to drive the wrong way down a one-way street if you have a lantern attached to the front of your automobile.

You must have windshield wipers on your car.

You may not have an ice cream cone in your back pocket at any time.

Masks may not be worn in public.

Men may not spit in front of the opposite sex.

Women are able to retain all property they owned prior to marriage in the case of divorce. However, this provision does not apply to men.

Anniston Laws
You may not wear blue jeans down Noble Street.

Lee County Laws
It is illegal to sell peanuts in Lee County after sundown on Wednesday.

Mobile Laws
It is illegal to howl at ladies within the city limits.

Well in this particular law, you are required to have the wipers, but don't have to have a windshield.

Alaska Laws

Moose may not be viewed from an airplane.

While it is legal to shoot bears, waking a sleeping bear for the purpose of taking a photograph is prohibited.

It is considered an offense to push a live moose out of a moving airplane.

Anchorage Laws

Persons may not live in a trailer as it is being hauled across the city.

Fairbanks Laws
It is considered an offense to feed alcoholic beverages to a moose.

Haines Laws
A person may only carry a concealed slingshot if that person has received the appropriate license.

Employers of bars may not let their bartenders serve while they are drunk themselves.

Juneau Laws
Owners of flamingos may not let their pet into barber shops.

Buildings that preserve scenic vistas are awarded ?bonus points? by the government.

Full text of the law:
Citation: 04 CBJAC 040.010 Scenic vistas.

(a) Policy. Development which is designed and sited on land in such a way as to preserve scenic vistas visible from public places may be awarded bonus points.

(Eff. 02/19/88)

Soldotna Laws
Persons may not allow "attractive nuisances" to exist.

Explanation: While the wording of the actual law may sound like an oxymoron, an "attractive nuisance" is really any object that will attract a bear (i.e. garbage). By discouraging bears to come around, dangerous human/bear interactions are limited as well as expensive bear relocation and/or shootings.

An old By-Law still exists that says that an Englishman may shoot a Welshman that is crossing the England-Wales border with a Longbow and he is allowed to kill him with it. Note. he would be prosecuted if he used any other type of Bow (Crossbow, Short Bow etc.)

There is another law in an English City (Chester i think) that says you may kill a Welshman within the city walls after Midnight

Strange but even strangely true

Memphis Laws
