If I get podded, will I only lose the money on my ship, or the money in my bank account too?

You will lose all the money you are carrying but you will get "insurance" on your ship. I think it's 1/3 or 1/4 of the price. Just be careful with those double deaths because then you'll only get 5k

normal deaths make you get 5k too sometimes, I lost my DC and I ended up with 5k.
